Transportation Freight Broker

About the position:

We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Transportation Freight Broker (at least one year of industry specific experience is required). This job will entail working closely with a team, as well as independent improvisational thinking. Our Broker will have a wide range of customer-facing and carrier-facing responsibilities, and will have an active role in decision-making and applying company directives.

Your responsibilities:

  • Broker all outbound shipments from a specific region
  • Establish working relationships with core carriers
  • Develop and foster carrier relationships to enhance performance in both brokerage and logistic shipments
  • Solicit carrier bids to move client shipments
  • Negotiate carrier charges to optimize service to the customer and meet profit objectives for Performance Transportation
  • Maximize margin by utilizing historical data and market indices
  • Document, update and distribute carrier contracts as shipments are awarded
  • Confirm shipments brokered for Performance Transportation customers are delivered in a timely and damage-free manner
  • Work as a team to maximize operational effectiveness with departmental depth
  • Track customer shipments in transit and provide feedback communication to the customer
  • Resolve discrepancies between carrier invoices and carrier contracts to support accounts payable activities
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Accuracy with strong attention to detail
  • Innovative problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated organization skills
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills
  • Computer literacy with MS Office software
  • Intermediate skills in Excel
  • Minimum one year of experience in the 3PL or brokerage industry
  • Experience with TMS (Transportation Management Software)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Supply Chain Management, or other related field
  • Knowledge of McLeod TMS preferred
  • Experience in full truckload brokerage preferred
